Women in Leadership Workshop

We are delighted to invite eligible EACR members to apply for one of 30 complimentary places at our annual ‘Women in Leadership’ workshop. This inspiring event will be held right before the EACR 2026 Congress in Budapest in June.

The workshop will empower women in cancer research to excel as leaders by enhancing their skills and confidence to succeed in the context of a male-dominated scientific environment. The programme will include an informal TED-style talk, a panel discussion, an interactive debate on relevant leadership topics, and role-playing typical challenging scenarios with professional actors.

100% of 2025 participants would recommend the workshop to colleagues. One participant commented "In the workshop, we explored how authenticity, often undervalued in traditional leadership paradigms, is actually a core strength, especially for women navigating complex leadership spaces. Woman leaders should carry on their role with self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and alignment with their values."

Because challenges like caring commitments and career breaks are already addressed in other forums, this workshop focuses specifically on honing leadership abilities in order to thrive at the top.

The programme includes:

• Breakfast and an informal TED-style talk by Jennie Lill, Senior Fellow and Executive Director, Genentech
• A panel discussion and personal insights from the Organising Committee of renowned women scientists 
• An interactive debate on topics such as assertiveness, saying no, multi-tasking/prioritising, delegating, mentoring as female leaders, self-promotion and sponsorship of colleagues
• Role-playing typical challenging scenarios with professional actors, such as being heard in a room of men, being excluded from decision-making, dealing with mansplaining, bossiness vs leadership
• Networking lunch

Eligibility

We invite applications for a place at the workshop from EACR women members in, or about to start, their first independent position in academia or industry. Applicants must have at least four years of postdoctoral experience, and there is no upper limit on time spent in independent research. There are no restrictions on how long you must have been an EACR member for.

Successful applicants are offered a complimentary registration to attend the EACR Women in Leadership Workshop. Please note that travel and accommodation costs must be covered by the applicant.

Eligible researchers can apply quickly and easily online through our Grant Awards application portal. 

1. Check your EACR membership status. This will be shown at the top of every EACR email newsletter or you can log in to the EACR website and visit this page: eacr.org/members. To become an EACR member click here.
2. You need to be logged in to your EACR website account to access the portal. Click here to log in to your EACR account: this will open in a new browser tab. If you don't remember your password, click 'Forgotten your password?' at the bottom of the page to reset it. 
3. After logging in, come back to this page and click here to access the Grant Awards application portal. Check that you meet the eligibility criteria before applying. If you cannot access the portal but you believe you are eligible, please contact our membership team. 
4. Complete each section of the online form. 
5. After clicking 'Save and submit' you will be able to view and edit your application using this link at any time until the deadline.
